Welcome to the Mechanicsburg Museum Association ~

Welcome to the Mechanicsburg Museum Association. All information has been recently updated for the 2008 calendar year. We encourage you to check our event calendar to see what's going on at the Museum. If you have any questions about this site, please email us.

Stationmaster's HouseThe Mechanicsburg Museum Association was founded in 1975 in a community effort to preserve the Stationmaster’s House, a historic Mechanicsburg landmark, from destruction. Since its founding, the Association has preserved and promoted Mechanicsburg’s unique history with educational programs, gallery exhibits, and by acquiring four more historic buildings in the area.

Aside from the Stationmaster’s House, the MMA owns and preserves the Washington Street Station, Frankeberger Tavern, the Freight Station and most recently, the Passenger Station. The buildings are open to the public during regular museum hours and at special events, such as Jubilee Day, and other community celebrations.

The Association is active within the community, sponsoring annual events such as the Heritage Golf Tournament, the Fourth Grade Art Exhibit (part of the educational program), a Holiday Wreath sale, the Holly Trolley Tour and dinner at the historic Frankeberger Tavern. The Sunflower Garden Tour and Flower Show and the Quilt Show are held on alternating years.

Our main office is located in the Passenger Station at 2 West Strawberry Alley.  The Freight Station is where the Museum Store is located, the museum archives, and a changing gallery space for various exhibits throughout the year.

The mission of the Mechanicsburg Museum Association is:

  • to collect and preserve material to establish or illustrate the history of Mechanicsburg and provide for its accessibility of the community and surrounding area
  • to develop educational programs for all ages and disseminate information in prepared programs/guest lecturers
  • to restore significantly historic buildings
  • to establish and maintain exhibits in keeping with the theme of local history and development

The Mechanicsburg Museum Association was incorporated as a non-profit corporation in 1976 and founding membership totaled over 600 individuals and/or businesses.

Since 1975, MMA has acquired several buildings of historical significance including The Stationmaster's House, Frankeberger Tavern, Freight Station, Passenger Station and the Washington Street Station.
