MECHANICSBURG MUSEUM ASSOCIATION VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

The following is a list of areas in which we ask each member to consider offering time as a Volunteer. Please look over this list and see if there are one or more areas that you would consider volunteering. Our Volunteer Coordinator will then contact you. Our Museum is dependent on your generosity. Thank you.

Board of Directors - an opportunity to help direct the activities of the Museum; an involved, challenging leadership role.

Acquisitions - cataloging and storing our "treasures"

Docents - tour guides for the Stationmaster's House, Passenger and Freight Stations, Union Church and the Frankeberger Tavern (special events). Training provided.

Educational Program - volunteers help 4th grade students as docents in several buildings in April and May. Training provided.

Oral History - helping to interview residents of Mechanicsburg.

Transcribing Oral History - as needed.

Newsletter - assist in the assembly of the newsletter for mailing

Hospitality/Hostess - on occasion, help is needed with receptions for exhibit openings and programs to plan and serve at the events.

Custodial Maintenance - involves spring-cleaning of the above buildings and fulfilling the light, routine house cleaning chores throughout the year.

Maintenance - helping with small carpentry, electrical or plumbing projects.

Office Help - volunteering once a month to help in the office and museum store during the museum visiting hours - Tuesday through Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and Saturday 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Museum Store - helping with inventory under direction of the chairman. (training)

Jubilee Day - helping to sell souvenir items at the Tavern.

Heritage Golf Tournament - helping to plan the event and working the day of the tournament to be held in May.

Sunflower Garden Tour - greeting participants as a host/hostess.

Christmas Wreath Sale - making bows (prior to the event) selling wreaths when scheduled.

Nominating Committee - providing nominees for Board of Directors and Nominating Committee Ballot

A membership in the Mechanicsburg Museum Association is an opportunity to help keep history alive. Members receive six newsletters annually announcing exhibits, activities and fundraisers offered by the museum. All contributions are tax deductible.
